Marble culture begins in the classroom

250 young students from five preschools and elementary school in Carrara are the protagonists of the project promoted by the Istituto Comprensivo M. Buonarroti and implemented thanks to the collaboration of Cna, the Chamber of Commerce of Massa Carrara, the Municipality of Carrara, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Marble School, Marble and Machinery, associations, experts and insiders.

The project includes a series of classroom lessons with artisans, quarrymen and designers; guided tours of the quarries and the Marble Museum; creative workshops, exhibitions and presentations to bring the very young closer to the historical tradition of quarrying and working with Carrara marble.

The mission is to form the culture of marble in the classroom, to raise future generations of artisans, stonemasons, quarrymen, sculptors… managers, designers, entrepreneurs… and all professional figures related to the marble industry.

In this way, the school wants to go back to being the link between marble, the territory and the companies.

“Schools and businesses must insist on building a solid link that is very weak today. What is missing, at present, is a structured connection between the teaching and the entrepreneurial hemispheres. We need to rebuild the culture of marble, starting in the classrooms and showing our young people that they can stay and not flee abroad because if they decide to invest their time in a path towards the enhancement of marble there will be plenty of opportunities. A cultural change that must also invest the companies that are the other indispensable element of the cultural process. Cna is ready, also on this occasion, to do its part”.
