La Madonna della Natività di Arnolfo di Cambio
As Christmas approaches, there are many splendid, marble representations of the Nativity made over the centuries.
Prominent among them is the Madonna of the Nativity by Arnolfo di Cambio.
Created by Arnolfo di Cambio and helpers in the early 14th century, this marble sculptural group measures approximately (60×125 cm).
Originally, this splendid depiction of the Nativity was placed in the lunette of the left portal of the ancient facade of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence.
Today it is preserved in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence.
