In Carrara the 1st street named after “The women of marble”

In Carrara, the city of marble, it was decided to recognize the importance of the role of women who have worked and who work in the marble sector, by naming a specific area of ​​the city after it. The place chosen in the city, which takes the name of “Women of Marble”, was the street in piazzale  Tarnone, near the old station of the via marmifera.

The inauguration  took place last December and the street has become the symbol of recognition of the role of women, which unfortunately in this sector, is often overshadowed. This street is therefore the symbol that women who work in the stone sector in the world exist and must be considered on a par with their male colleagues.

 The Women of Marble Association promoted this initiative and since last year it has moved its head office from Verona to Carrara. This association gives importance to women who work personally in this sector and related technologies. The role of women in this sector is articulated and complex and consists of different moments in the cycle of production, use and conservation. Women of Marble wishes to promote and spread the knowledge of quality Italian marble, through contacts between people, organizations and associations and through cultural events, conferences, with particular reference to the world of women.
